What makes a good cover? What kinds of covers attract readers to buy a book? In this interactive discussion, Crystal Heidel of Byzantium Sky Press will walk writers through the essential elements of cover design. Whether you plan to design your own cover, work with an artist friend, or hire a designer, these tips and tools will allow you to make informed choices when it comes to your book’s cover. In this workshop, participants will have an opportunity to scan the shelves of the bookstore for covers to discuss and critique.

BIO: Crystal Heidel, owner of Byzantium Sky Press, lives in Milton, Delaware. She’s a graduate of Delaware Technical & Community College, with a degree in Visual Communications. She has won numerous awards for her cover designs, including Rehoboth Reimagined (2018) and She Writes: Visions and Voices of Seaside Scribes (2019). Her novel, Still Life in Blood, won First Place in both the Delaware Press Association’s Communications Contest and the National Federation of Press Women’s Communication Contest in 2014. She also has a book of poetry, Landslide.
