Our March book club selection is The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell. In 2019, a listening post in Puerto Rico picks up a beautiful musical transmission from another planet. While the United Nations hems and haws, the Jesuits organize an expedition made up of four priests and four civilians. Emilio Sandoz is the lone survivor of this mission, and upon his return, is accused of horrific crimes that he must attempt to explain.

The meeting is on March 18th at 3:30 p.m.. When making your purchase, please let the staff member know you are a member in order to receive 10% off books for the discussion. Hot beverages are available at half price for members during discussions. New members are always welcome. Come to one discussion or come to them all!

Emilio Sandoz, a brilliant Jesuit priest, seems like the perfect leader for the first expedition to an extraterrestrial culture. However, when Sandoz returns to Earth 20 years later as the mission's sole survivor, he is accused of unspeakable violence and depravity. Why? An extraordinary fiction debut, by paleoanthropologist Mary Doria Russell.
