Jamie Brown, publisher and editor-in-chief of The Broadkill Review and CEO of Broadkill Publishing Associates LLC, will offer an eight-session, nine-week course in Advanced Fiction. Brown has taught creative writing at Georgetown University, The Smithsonian Institution and the Creative Writing Center of Delaware. The workshop will run from 3 to 5 p.m. starting Wednesday, March 7, and ending Wednesday, May 2. There will be no class March 28. The cost is $80 for the entire series. Group size is limited to 12 so each writer can benefit from the attention of everyone in the workshop. Since this is a self-selected workshop, the instructor expects participants will be ready to take the feedback of others as seriously as the feedback they offer. Participants will present their work to their peers for critique with an eye toward revision. Each participant is expected to bring as many copies of work to be reviewed as there are workshop participants. Each writer shall be expected to read aloud up to three pages of one short story of his or her own original composition. In addition to being the publisher and editor of The Broadkill Review, Brown was associate editor for The Sulphur River Literary Review and Wordwrights! Magazine, as well as the fiction editor of The Washington Review of the Arts. He will provide additional materials for participants. Several stories workshopped by his students have now been published in literary magazines, and many students have gone on to become writers who publish their own work regularly and teach writing. Participants should bring to each meeting, beginning with the second, sufficient copies of their work for each workshop participant to take home and review. They should also bring pens or pencils, notepaper and an open mind. The reading list below is recommended, though not required. Reserve space by emailing Jamie Brown at the_broadkill_press@earthlink.net. Payment by check or money order in the amount of $80 should be made payable to The Broadkill Press and received by Thursday, March 1. Students should send payment and a brief paragraph describing themselves to Workshop Registration, The Broadkill Press, c/o John Milton Books, 104 Federal St., Milton, DE 19968.
